○ For someone who kills people for a living, Lukas is remarkably calm and nonviolent. Normal, even, some might say. If you met him on the street, you would never suspect him to be involved in something so bloody, honestly. He can seem to be a little forthright, and maybe his sense of humor is a bit off, but otherwise he just seems to be perfectly laid back and sociable. He doesn't suffer the ill-effects of murdering people on a regular basis - being sterile to it allows him to lead a perfectly ordinary existence…or at least, he considers himself fairly well-adjusted. Many would beg to differ would they knew what he really did, but that's another story altogether.
○ Lukas is a remarkably collected, unconcerned guy - there's very little that seems to bother him, and he takes everything in stride. He's had his life genuinely, verbally threatened before, and he did little else than shrug, and make a comment about how there were worse things that could happen. He's be trained to maintain an even temperament for years, and even when something may genuinely bother him, he's never aware of it - he's conditioned to be as he is…indifferent. A flighty or extreme reaction in his line of work can mean death, and the unconcerned attitude has bled into everything he does. The only thing that seems to get through to him is humor - which shows in his sarcasm and generally odd sense of humor himself. Dry wit and dark humor seem to be his forte, with the occasional bizarre, silly moment - he seems to never take himself, or anyone else, entirely seriously.
○ He's always been surprisingly social - something also trained into him. Having been taught how to blend in amongst a crowd and get close to his targets to eliminate them, he's naturally companionable, making friends even when he doesn't mean to - which ends in knowing plenty of people, but never trusting a one. It's a general rule not to trust anyone in his line of work - unless you have equal dirt on them to stop them, they'll likely turn you in in a flat second, and it's a number one rule to always keep your biggest secrets - and your occupational ties - to yourself. He's never trusted anyone any farther than he can thro them - and sure, he can enjoy your company, but that doesn't mean he'd have an issue turning the tables against you should the need arise…in other words, if he was threatened in any way.
○ His tendency to be painfully blunt does not seem to mix well with this apathy. He's never seen any reason to beat around the bush (unless it involves his job or his 'coworkers'…or anything like that), and seems to have no issues telling people exactly what he thinks. He's rather unaware to what's socially acceptable, or what may hurt others' feelings - he has honestly no idea why people get so offended by some things he says. It's been the cause of the occasional conflict - which Lukas can solve almost as quickly as he started it, as well-versed in talking himself out of situations he is. For someone so familiar with killing, he will do what he can to avoid a violent end to a conflict - but at the same time, if he sees no solution in the future, he has no issues gunning you down. He wouldn't even bat an eyelash.
○ Lukas has come to learn you don't let the risks to yourself - or your ties - live. Ever. He has a very strong sense of self-preservation from this, and unless you have him in a situation where he cannot respond, threatening his life, or his freedom, generally ends badly. He's ruthless in that sense. He takes a pride in himself and his work, and he doesn't believe he should be condemned for something he's quite egotistical about. He's always been arrogant about things he knows he's good at, and insulting and/or threatening that isn't the brightest idea. He's conditioned to do what he believes is necessary - placing yourself in a spot where you are both disposable and a threat to this man often ends with a barrel in the face and a bullet between the eyes. And that's getting off easy.

○ Only child of Seymour and Annelise Madeleine, a young couple who had been down on their luck and then some. Annelise Madeleine (nee Levitsky) was the daughter of a man with…questionable ties, to say the least, a family aspect she had chosen to avoid, but when times began to get hard a few months before their child was born, and regular loans didn't cut it, she finally lowered herself to asking for a little…'assistance' from her father's old contacts, swearing to be able to pay them back as soon as she was up and moving again.[/blockquote]
○ She was granted her request, and they were able to move up in the world a bit - not too much, lest Annelise draw too much suspicion from her husband (he was already questioning how she got what money she did), but enough. So when Lukas, named after his grandfather on his mother's side, was born, rather than living on the worst side of the slums, he was living on the worst side of the middle-class residences - a considerable improvement. Not high-class, certainly, but enough for his parents to maintain themselves, him, and a babysitter for when they were both at work.
○ It was all well and good until Annelise's 'family' came calling to be payed back. In the end, she had to tell her husband - and while the man was angered, he worked with her to attempt to work off the debt. In the end, it wasn't enough, though, and their underground ties grew tired of waiting around and holding them afloat. So, they did what was easiest, and eliminated the issue. Lukas had only been a year and a half when his parents met their sticky end - he doesn't even remember what they look like. To add insult to injury (or…death), they took the child the parents had so many issues raising due to lack of funds, taken in by one of the heads of the lower branches of the family, with the intention of raising him as a perfect subordinate.
○ If one were think of it logically, he grew up in a safer environment than he would have with his parents - his 'uncle' Vasha Ivanoff (to whom he had no actual blood relation - not that he ever knew) may not have been the highest ranking man in the local ties of the Russian mob, but he still made damn good illegal income, and raised Lukas as his own. He had his own motivations for taking the kid, however - beyond being an insult to the Madeleine family he'd killed. He'd planned, from the very start, to mold him into a vital asset to their little organization - which assured him praise, and a spot a bit higher on the chain. It did help he rather liked the idea of making a miniature version of himself, as well - what with the kid so young, he would never have any idea what 'normal' was meant to be, anyway.
○ Lukas was surrounded by death, corruption, and the underlying power that really pulled the strings in New York since he was a child. As such, he was utterly sterilized to events that would otherwise scar other children for life - and never understood how it was so wrong to live like his family did, but did as he was told to keep it all a secret. He was perfectly content with his life - his uncle told him his parents had died while working for 'them', and they had done everything they could to save them. When that had failed, he had been turned over to his uncle - who he always believed to be his genuine uncle, and always saw him as his real father, regardless of what he was told - it was hard to miss people you'd never known, hard to think of them as your caretakers when his uncle was there in the flesh, and was always a fairly giving man, if a little strict at times. And luckily, despite having his own motivations, Vasha was good to the kid - even if he did raise him considerably differently than most.
○ By the time he was fourteen, very little of what happened around him could make him cringe. It was at that time his uncle began to 'condition' him - in just about everything he could think of and that the boy could handle with school - because he had sent Lukas to the local public schools, lest the boy be totally alienated from the real world. Even if the education wasn't one he needed for his future with them, he wanted to boy to socialize it wouldn't do to set him loose to schmooze when he had no idea how to handle people.
○ He dropped out of school and from there on out was 'trained' full-time in just about anything shady you could imagine. The generic lock picking, stealth, how to forge convincing fake IDs and documents, the ability to blend in without actually having to disguise yourself, how to talk to and manipulate people so that they like you so much they won't think to ask why you aren't on the guest list to the party, the ability to blend in without actually having to disguise yourself, how to cover one's tracks when you are found out - along with anything else generically underhanded, really. And of course hand-to-hand combat and gun training - the former of which Lukas excelled in greatly. Vasha molded the boy into his own personal infiltration, manipulation, and killing tool.
○ Of course, as soon as he began to actually work for the family business, he got recognized fast. His ability to blend so well with others and being utterly indifferent to killing others made him a shoe-in for assassination contracts - for which he got his first tryout at the young age of nineteen. He passed said test with flying colors and a badge of honor, to say the least - made all the more impressive as his first job was an inside one, and had taken nigh two weeks to complete properly. The rest, quite frankly, was history. Lukas has been one of the contract killers, all of whom go under the same name, of the Russian mafia that litters New York, for seven years now - making him, definitely, what one would call a professional.
○ If anyone knew the truth of his upbringing - which, none do but those who were involved - they would assume it a horrible life. Quite the contrary - Lukas quite enjoys it, it brings easy money and a way to show off what he's good at. For years he's been content with his job, being supposedly 'controlled' by his superiors in the organization - he's content, and there's little that can change his mind.
