He majors in Graphic Designs and works with colors, typography and ways to catch other people's eye for advertisement purposes. That and the fact that he had always had a creative and artistic flair to his work, (even if no one really notices) it is the only reason why he works as a part time tattoo artist with his friend (who runs the show), he also created an online page, advertisements on the internet and flyers to stick up around the city to attract customers to the little shop. Also he has a camera where he takes pictures and sells them as a profit- sometimes making them part digital painting or doing all on the tablet he brought to make it more eye-catching. ○ Living Situation He lives in a reasonably well priced apartment on the east end of New York. It's nothing big- just a one bedroom/bathroom with a kitchen and a living room. It's on the eighteenth floor of a building next to a bank; and it overlooks the city skyline- which isn't all that bad, considering it was better then a run-down home on the east end. It's fairly cheap, and while it's overall boring, he can't complain.
He had brought it about a year before, and at first the walls were bare and uninteresting. the carpet lines almost every room except the kitchen, and the furniture was simple with only one solid color. However, the first week of living there was bearable- until the unexpected arrival of his friend, who had a lot of money but little thought on what to do with it. She had him promptly moved to a hotel so she cold remodel the entire space. She replaced the carpet with hardwood flooring, and the furniture was sold and replaced with a darker finish to- as she put it- 'match is personality'. But the walls remained bare and there was no scheme of decorations Before she had left to head back to Chicago, she had informed it it was to be filled with everything he had done in his career, 'to fill the ugly and depressingly asylum-white walls' she had claimed it to be.
A year later, nothing has really changed, he did, however, put up samples of his works on the wall to full up the space, keeping his friend pleased when she visited. But like a lot of things, he doesn't expect his home to be elegant, fancy nor does he intend to show it off- it's a place for him to live, and besides what has already been changed, it remains the same- without any particular decor and colors and frames of his photography fills the wall and are propped up on the side of the living room. ○ Appearance Damien is a very solitary type of guy- and people can tell. His features are very strong. A razor edge of a jaw, full lips, inquiring icy blue eyes and a sloping nose fill his angular face.Raven-black locks frame his face, his bangs hangs a little above his eyes with a few strays blocking other people's view of his lucid gaze. His hair is layered in the back and naturally curls at the end- earning him the ridiculous name of 'Spiky'. As people would put it, he has the eyes of an artist- bright, attentive, prone to catching details in a light that others would miss. A link from his eyes to his mind- unlike many close minded people, he has a very perception outlook, seeing the world differently from others around him. The corners of his lips are often curled into a knowing smirk, a trademark that appears when he knows he's right about something, but he sure as hell won't say it out loud; instead indulging himself to watching other people's frustrations as he try to understand something.
But he's not your typical artist. He's not the type of guy who just sits in his room and draws constantly- that's being stereotypical. And while yes, he does have a tendency to start drawing on whatever flat surface is in front of him; he also runs in the morning, goes to the gym almost every Wednesday, and when his buddies aren't busy they go out and play sports or something. That's often followed by going to a bar and drinking- and so at first, it was merely to prevent getting a 'beer belly' but eventually he does it for the sake of his health (a few drinks don't kill anyone, right?). So due to being a man who don't really eat fast food and works out, his body type would be classified as 'lean and muscular'. He, as a kid, was also taught karate and kickboxing. While he had stopped practicing three years prior, it doesn't mean he doesn't remember it.
As for style- Damien has a very casual one. It's mostly jeans and a shirt- nothing particularly crazy compared to the freaks that lurk the streets of New York. But that's just his preference, he dresses according to what he's doing. If it's another one of the ridiculous parties where he's required to were a suit- that's what he would wear, if he's going out and drinking, a semi-formal look would do. But one thing that is typically considered unchanging would be colors- Damien is very partial to dark colors- black, brown, and shades of grey are preferred over the brighter ones. Writers would say that it correlates to his personality- a desire to stay hidden in the dark then stand out, but at the same time, be seen in a 'pure' presence (love, friendship, happiness, ect). None of it is confirmed him Damien himself, he would only smile slightly and comment on it being an interesting theory.
PART 02 SPECIFICS ○ Possible Affinities Fire, water, and wing ○ Personality Damien is known for his silent disposition and yet intelligent mind. Heart-breakingly, he's not the most social person in the world. In fact, he would rather sit back and drink with a few buddies then be in a crowd. Up until three years ago, he wouldn't talk to anyone unless they had something he had wanted. Everything he does, he always has this cool, collected and a somewhat awkwardly distant attitude, especially to strangers and women. Whatever feelings boil under the surface, he will seem reserved and controlled to whoever he's talking to. Yes, he's not the most open person, and trust is only given to a few people that can prove they are worth it. He's always been a cautious and thoughtful person, often thinking things through before making some sort of decision, big or not- and a lot of the time- he's not one to blindly take a side until he knows everything. He refuses to be pegged as an ignorant person, it hurts his pride and bruises his ego (along with a million other things).
It takes a while to build trust up, but he's much more easy going with his friends then anyone else- trust them with favors and can be seen laughing and joking with them. He still has that mildly closed manner with them too, but that's something that is purely Damien- to really understand him, his friends pick up clues that he intentionally drops when he's around them. But like always, he would rather deal with problems himself, having someone help him would make him feel like he's a weak person- an idea that he rejects immediately. He's a stubborn brat sometimes, but he just can't muster up energy to ask someone to help him- he'd rather just handle it on his own.
Now, in general, he has a thing to being alone. He's patient, understanding and more of a listener then a talker. He's a little shy when it comes to meeting new people, but doesn't hate the idea of it. He has a habit of hanging around downtown when there's nothing for him to do, or driving out of the city to take photographs. There are days where he would head to the music store that one of his friends runs and just listen to recommendations or just talk music. Along with being an artist, he also plays a piano- a gift that is rotting away since he doesn't have space for a piano in his room and can't use it for any of his gain. He's a great guy, honest, trustworthy, patient, and easy to talk to though. The only downside is that he's sometimes a little judgmental, first impressions are everything to him. And yes, he's still a bit of an egotist. Some things never change. ○ History His mother and father were divorced a short while after he was born. The first five years of his life was sketchy, but he recalled a more relaxed and peaceful one- with his mother promising that life would be easy as long as he kept his mind open. After that, most of his memories are with his father in New York- a successful and witty lawyer, clearly a figure that Damien had taken after. Growing up, his father was a man who got what he wanted, and taught Damien who to follow and get what he wanted from others around him. Creativity and the ability to use that to to other people's desire and weakness was a key. As a son who looked up to his dad, he wanted to be just like him.
And growing up, Damien had always been a bit of a smooth talker, someone who can manipulate others and play on their feelings to get what he wanted from them. It was a enjoyment that was particularly fun when he was in high school, as most girls had always had a thing or two for silent and mysterious boys. In high school, he's never been the type pf guy who likes trivial things, he had his life planned out ahead of him- intending to follow his father and become a lawyer. He often found himself looking too far ahead of the future, mapping out his entire life like it was a chess game. And at the same time, kept up a reputation of a strong and aloof young man. As they had said: 'its not what you know, it's who you know', and originally he used that strong and reserved manner to show his father's companions that he wasn't someone to be fussed over and that he could handle himself- weaseling his way into their good graces for internship and a shot at law school. He was smart, athletic and charming, but manipulative, cold-hearted and often saw himself above others. When it came to his love life- he was often in the arms of not the cutest girl, but the girl who had a powerful family; such as doctors. His father often encouraged him to go up and beyond, through various methods of bribery and fancy cars.
Now, during most of Damien's high school year, he had never really gotten in touch with his mother-. It was the summer of his senior year that he finally went to a small down in Virgina to see her. And he wasn't sure what to think of her. His father was a power hungry type of man, who believed in money buying happiness and only wishing for his son's success at everything he put his mind too- it didn't matter what. As for his mother? She was almost like a hippie- a woman who would sit around, smoke, and talk about the beauty in life. At first, much to his chagrin, she didn't seem to care for her health at all, she didn't seem to care about being better or even having money to pay rent. Everything was about life, how simple it can be, and how beautiful it is. Damien wouldn't say much to her, but at times he would just go out and sit besides her and listen to her ramblings with a blank gaze. One could say he was intrigued, and had never allowed himself to think about what his mother so freely talked about. It was different- and he couldn't say that it was a bad one either.
And after the two months with spending time with her and listening to what she had to say- his ideals were soon abandoned. All that time, he had spent so much time in the future that he had forgotten life was was passing him by- that he wasn't living and truly enjoying himself. But if only his dad could say that he supported his son on his new change (which he didn't), and the arguing over his son's future was the last push that Damien needed to move out. He allowed himself to be a little more relaxed and carefree, going in the direction of the wind instead of trying to figure out a way to make it go the way he wants it too. Some days life is easy, some days it does nothing but frustrates him and finds himself planning ahead once more. Admittedly, without some of his childhood friends around, he might never would have strayed from the 'dream' of being a lawyer.
So, when he graduated high school, he moved to a small apartment with his friends- four of them all lived in a two bedroom apartment and shared the rent (naturally, he was the lucky one who slept on the bed rather then the futon or the couch)- and the constant parties, drinking, gambling and messes his friends made loosened him up and allowed him to find himself a little more then he did when he was in high school.
Now, at the age of twenty one, he enrolled into an art class, moved out again to be alone and help run a tattoo parlor. But his mother's words often come to pass in his mind, and he wonders if he should drop the class anyways. It would be easy, he could move in with a few friends, share the rent like he first did. Until he really decides, his life is quiet, his friends still has the tendency to use the 'emergency' key and drag him out for a night of drinking when he has nothing to do. But he won't complain about his life, it's simple and easy. What more could he ask of it?

Your application has been reviewed and Fate has smiled upon you today. Damien Demortimer, you have been accepted as a civilian and Fate will post if anything changes. He's a really puzzling yet simple character. He does and doesn't fit the stereotype for an artist; just really depends on one's own image of an artist. Though, he obviously has a good head on his shoulders. By the way, love the faceclaim. |
