He always seemed to get good marks without trying too hard; at least, he made it look easy. Although his parents wanted him to attend university, he's decided to start work full-time at the restaurant they own downtown. He works as a waiter, and is most likely taking over the restaurant when his father retires. ○ Living Situation Oliver lives in the West End and owns an apartment there that he pays for himself. His parents live Uptown. ○ Appearance Not one to be flashy, Oliver, at a first glance, is not anything special. He is a regular guy, going about his regular day-to-day activities. His personality shows well through his appearance; he is casual both in looks, and in mentality. He appears calm or neutral nearly all of the time. One of his more obvious qualities is how tall he is; nearly 6'2". He weighs approximately 178 lbs. He's in shape; not someone you would particularly call "muscular", but he is strong and in good health. He's not very tan, and he burns easily - something he usually tries to keep from happening. Although from a distance Oliver looks quite average, upon closer inspection, he is refreshingly good-looking. He has a well-defined jaw line, and blonde hair that usually falls in strands around his face. It is a bit unruly and often gets tangled, in which case he pushes it back and ends up looking like a different person altogether. His eyes are his most striking feature; a dark, mossy green, and he has a strong gaze that he tends to hold longer than what is socially acceptable. They're his best tool for expressing himself, since his facial expressions are usually tough to read. Because he works full-time, 5 days out of 7 he will be wearing a white dress shirt with a black tie, and black pants (it is a rather high-end restaurant). When he's working, he also wears a suit vest and an apron that he leaves tied around his waist. He's also required to wear black leather shoes, of which he has several pairs. He has a very classy look. If he's not working, however, he wears rather normal clothes. Jeans and T-shirts are the norm, and if it's chilly, a dark brown leather jacket. In the fall and winter, he'll bundle himself up in a peacoat and will wear about 5 layers, since he has a tendency to be over sensitve to temperatures.   PART 02 SPECIFICS ○ Possible Affinities I'm thinking Fire, Earth, or Spirit would be best. ○ Personality Oliver Stride is a very deep person, although he keeps this hidden from everyone except those he cares about. Many of his coworkers would simply describe him as "normal" or "a nice kid." He doesn't open up to people very well, as he tends to not care about himself as much as he cares about others. At a very early age, he decided that he was confident in who he was and that he would continue going through life with the same mentality: day by day, week by week, year by year. Still, he enjoys surprises and interesting things in life, and he will often follow the drama that his friends or acquaintances go through in order for amusement. He has a deep set of morals that he uses in everyday life. He believes that people should follow their bliss, and looks at life with a simplistic view. He tends to look at the big picture rather than the small details, and consequently, he is interested in varying perspectives. Rather than saying the glass is half full or half empty, he says it's both, since both descriptions match. Although he may appear stubborn at times about his beliefs, and will shrug off anyone who tries telling him differently, he takes their words to heart and may spend the rest of that day thinking about it and mulling it over. He appreciates looking at life through different perspectives. Perhaps the reason Oliver thinks so much is because he's so quiet. He doesn't often talk to people unless it's necessary. Usually he will make small-talk with people, and leave it at that. However, certain individuals intrigue him more than others, and in those rare occasions, he will open up. He rarely talks about himself, because he considers himself somewhat boring. He has a good relationship with his parents, who, living Uptown, have plenty of friends and a rather wide social circle. They taught him good manners, and so Oliver is polite and friendly in situations that call for it. Being so quiet most of the time, Oliver has a tendency to surprise people when he opens up. He offers advice when he feels other people need it, but never feels like he needs anything in return. He is satisfied with the choices he makes in life, and tries to live without regrets; his decisions are his own responsibility, and he lives with the consequences alone. The only thing Oliver is not so confident about is love. He is somewhat of a hopeless romantic, and when he does fall, he falls very hard. A past experience with this has made him wary of his feelings, and he has learned to be careful. Unlike most guys his age, he's not interested in sleeping with twenty different women before he finds one to marry; he's looking for true love. He feels like he's playing a waiting game, patiently going through life until that one person comes to him. He's not a fan of relationship drama, and does his best to avoid it. ○ History All in all, Oliver's life has been average. He wouldn't consider himself special and he feels awkward when other people praise him or compliment him for his accomplishments (though he's learned to smile and say a simple "Thank you."). His schooling was average, as his parents have never taken kindly to prestigious, high class schools. The public schools Oliver attended served him well. He never had many friends, as he only became social in high school. He did, however, always get good grades. Most people who were friendly with him were doing it to get his help with homework. When he realised this, he began to shun himself away even more. The one friend he did make in high school was a boy named Michael. They had gym class together, and Michael was new to the school. The two of them got along well and stuck together as a sort of a team. However, when Michael got a girlfriend, she ended up falling for Oliver. Still a teenager and confused, he broke his friendship with Michael in order to be with the girl. Their relationship lasted almost a year before things fell apart, and the girl moved onto someone else. High school had ended, and Michael was nowhere to be found. Oliver moved on, and decided to skip university. It wasn't easy convincing his parents to let him not go to school. They thought it was a shame, seeing as all his years of schooling had been very easy in terms of academics; all of his teachers and professors recommended that Oliver continue with his studies, especially English, which he seemed to have a knack for. It made sense to him; literature is, after all, the study and exploration of the human condition. Even though Oliver decided not to go to University, he still has a dream of publishing a book one day. Because he decided not to go to university, his parents gave him a job, but told him he needed to find his own place to live. It was a bit of a culture shock, leaving the nice, well-rounded house they had in Uptown, to live, alone, in a run-down apartment in the West End.
