Wind, or Water, because they're constantly changing elements and can take the form of a storm or a cloudless sky--placid pool or raging tides.

○ In a lot of ways, Ezra has the kind of personality you'd expect from a man who knows he's probably going to die young. He's a larger-than-life partier with a very evil-may-care, nerves-of-steel attitude. Unrelated to that, he's something of a social butterfly, though he can be rather crass at times, and has an infectious laugh, if even his sense of humor is jaded, strange, and morbid. He's very confident, almost to the point of being an egotistical ass, and also very intelligent. In spite of his general good-mood, he has something of a dark side... considerably darker than most.
○ Let's start with the obvious. Ezra knows he's going to kick the bucket any day now, though, if he's lucky, it'll be a couple of decades off. So he came up with a simple philosophy--instead of guarding against death and having no fun for a couple more years of life, why not live life to the fullest? Well, this is all fine and dandy, except he does it to extremes. Instead of simply living life normally, he parties, and he parties hard, from going on drinking binges, to sleeping around with whoever looks good, to getting stoned, to just being stupid. He justifies this as the fact that, because he has less time to live, he has to cram experience into a shorter period of time. But it's different than that. He almost seems to be purposefully reckless, as if challenging something or someone to snatch his life away, instead of dying of natural causes. This applies to people, too. When he's in a confrontation, he isn't likely to show fear... at all. He won't back down. He'll get in your face and tell you off, even if you're the type to have a hair trigger temper. He doesn't care that he's at a natural disadvantage. He's generally the same way if he's threatened.
○ This very who-cares attitude and his "ballsiness" has earned him quite a few friends. He seems to be magnetic to some. This is generally aided by his good-mood and sense of humor. Ezra is the type to crack jokes, whether they're appropriate or not, all the while wearing something of a deadpan smirk on his face. He'll walk up to a woman he doesn't even know and whisper something dirty in her ear, knowing that he'll likely get his ass handed to him. It's all good in his book. Sometimes, before she retaliates, he'll convince her that she wants him, and though he generally fails, it's hard to tell whether or not he actually believes that she does. Confidence and ego billow off of him like a fog, from playing up his own skills, talents, and everything else, to holding little regard for most people. Though he's capable of having a good time and being tactful (and kinda compassionate), he's just as likely to be crass and inappropriate, without regard for the feelings of others.
○ But this in and of itself might be a contradiction. It could be a ruse for a morbid sense of fatalism, a challenge to death. It could be a way to make himself feel better. Or it could be a front to make others like him more. With as turbulent and impulsive a person as Ezra is, even he doesn't fully know.
○ And last... but not least, is his darkness. And we aren't just talking morbidness or occasionally being an ass. Underneath everything, Ezra is ruthless--perhaps the devil-may-care persona is truer than one might think. If truly pushed, it's difficult to say if he would be inhibited at all. After all, what's it matter? He's going to die soon. Might as well enjoy life, even in illicit, illegal fashions. He's already committed more crimes than most people might think, and while most of them are minor, it would be foolish to rule out the possible of a graver crime.

○ The Hauk's were a family of brunettes, as far back as they can remember, so when Marie Hauk gave birth to a baby with silver hair, the family knew something was wrong. After some confusion and worry, the doctor returned with Ezra, and informed Marie and her husband, Nathaniel, that their child was an albino. Albinism, exceedingly rare, had a heavy price. While the comforts of modern living could provide them with a better life than they would have had centuries prior, most albinos were fated to live a short life. However, Ezra, at this early stage, was still a healthy baby, other than his condition, and with proper precautions in place, his life expectancy might be raised.[/blockquote]
○ Marie and Nathaniel took their baby home--changed from the experience. Where they had been freer parents with their two other children, Ezra required a level of responsibility and protection unwarranted in the others. Animals were kept away from him, sick children were quarantined from their brother, and he was constantly tended to, fed higher quality food, and food less likely to make him ill. It was expensive, but the Hauk's were somewhat well off, and able to afford the needs of their child.
○ As Ezra grew up, he came to resent the level of care he was provided. Though he loved his parents greatly, he realized that they were in denial. While his life expectancy could be raised with careful measures, he didn't want to live life being careful. He wanted to experience life the way other kids did. He wanted to see and know the world before he died, and since he had less time to do it, he'd have to cram more in in the time he was given. When he was a child, though, he was too young to fully articulate what he meant, and expressed his frustration through open rebellion, and trouble-making. He would assault one of his other two brothers, simply to get them to fight him back. At first, it took some effort, because they realized the consequences of hitting the younger brother, but, after enough violence, they didn't care.
○ The defiance didn't end there. He'd push a chair over to the fridge, stand on it, and get the unhealthy food out of the freezer, and eat as much as he wanted. He'd get into places locked and sealed for his safety. In fact, by the age of four, it was apparent that Ezra was an unusually bright little boy.
When he was put into school, his intelligence blossomed, though, at the expense of his social life. His condition made other children behave strangely around him, or even cruelly, and the teachers protect him more readily than they should. Pre-school, kindergarten, and elementary school were all awkward times for hm, and frustrating ones. Frustrating because of his treatment, because of his condition, and because of the slow-pace at which class seemed to move, while his mind processed so much more so quickly.
○ It wasn't until middle school that he found his niche. As the children became older, they gradually became more accepting of people's differences. Some thought that his white hair and pink-red eyes were neat. It was these forming friendships that helped Ezra find his confidence. It was these friendships that helped him confront his family, and tell them how he felt. How he didn't want to be babied--how he knew he was going to die young, but he didn't want that to make them feel guilty, or hold him back. At first, his parents were reluctant, but with more acts of rebellion, these much more articulate and strong than before, they became mildly accepting.
○ Ezra pushed himself to the limit, even going so far as to join sports, at the dismay of his parents. The sports were injuring and exhausting, but after the onslaught of constant sickness and fatigue, his body became slightly healthier for it, even as the sun burned his skin. His thirst to experience was insatiable. He'd go abroad during the summer, through class trips and various camps. He'd skip school and wander the city.
○ At high school, his social skills, devil-may-care attitude, and life-experiences had drawn him quite the number of friends. But even these friends could not keep him in school for much longer. Finding school monotonous and tedious, particularly with his life expectancy being what it is, he dropped out of school and began to do a series of odd-jobs, using his intellect and skills he taught himself to aspire to such prestigious things as a car mechanic.
○ In spite of the objection most people would have to being a handyman, having a bunch of odd-jobs, and living paycheck to paycheck, the life has agreed with him so far. When he isn't working, he's out on the town, parting and enjoying the good life.
